Stick to the Plan, But Don’t Be Afraid to Change It

I want to talk to you about something we all deal with in our lives and don’t really think about it because it’s a natural thing our brains are so used to it becomes second nature and this is: making plans. We plan our days, our weeks, even our years. Some of us plan our careers, our families, and our futures. But here’s the thing—while having a plan is important, sometimes we need to change that plan. And that’s okay. But what we can’t do is give up on the plan altogether.

You see, plans are like maps. They guide us and show us the way to where we want to go. But what happens if the road on the map is closed? Or if a storm makes it too dangerous to continue? Do we stop our journey and turn back home? No! We find another way. We adjust our route. We might take a detour, or we might even have to slow down, but we keep going. The goal doesn’t change; only the way we get there does.

Think about when you’re playing a game. Maybe you’re not winning, and it seems tough. Do you quit? No! You try a different strategy. Maybe you pass the ball instead of shooting it yourself, or you change your position on the field. The plan to win is still there, but how you play the game might need to change.

In life, it’s the same. We make plans with the best information we have at the time. But life is unpredictable. New things come up, unexpected challenges arise, and sometimes we have to change our plans. But changing the plan doesn’t mean giving up. It means we’re smart enough to recognize when something isn’t working and brave enough to try something different.

Giving up, though, that’s a different story. When we give up, we lose sight of our goals. We stop trying, and we stop believing that we can achieve what we set out to do. Giving up means we won’t reach our destination because we’ve decided to stop moving forward.

So, my friends, remember this: There’s no problem in changing the plan when life throws us a curveball. It’s okay to adjust, adapt, and find a new way to reach our goals. But let’s not confuse that with giving up. Giving up is not an option if we truly want to succeed.

Let’s keep moving forward, even if the path we take looks different than the one we first planned. Because as long as we keep going, we’ll eventually get to where we want to be.

Thank you.
